What Causes Impaired Hearing And Feeling Of Having Mumps?

I lost hearing in my right ear about a month ago. Doctor put me on Prednizone in which I'm gradually being weened off. My symptom now is that I feel like I have the mumps and both ears have suction cups over them. I did get about 50% of hearing back in the right ear. Could this new problem be another infection or am I allergic to something?
