What Causes Hot Flashes And Eye Discomfort?

Have Graves disease and nodules on my goiter. Am taking 15mg of methomixale. T4 is normal but T3 is high but medication is helping to decrease it. Blood tests every six weeks. Cannot understand why my physician is decreasing the medication when it is helping to gradually decrease the high T3. Have shakes during the day and heat flashes throughout the day and some eye discomfort: realize these are symptoms of hypothyroidism. Take 25mg of atenolol for BP.

hi sir/madam,
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.

A hot flash is a feeling of intense warmth that’s not caused by an external source. Hot flashes can appear suddenly, or you may feel them coming on over a period of a few minutes.

Hormonal changes in your body are thought to cause hot flashes. This reaction can be triggered by several factors like:-
1. Spicy foods
2. Alcohol
3. Hot drinks
4. Caffeine
5. Being in a warm room
6. Smoking
7. Wearing tight clothing
8. Stress and anxiety
9. Pregnancy, particularly during the first and second trimesters
10.Hyperthyroidism
11.Chemotherapy
12.Spinal lesions
13.Some medications, including raloxifene (Evista), tamoxifen, and tramadol.

Lifestyle Advice to be followed:-

1. Sipping ice water at the start of a hot flash
2. Keeping a fan on while you sleep
3. Lowering room temperature
4. Wearing cotton clothes and using cotton bed linens
5. Keeping an ice pack on your bedside table
6. Avoiding spicy foods
7. Limiting how much alcohol you drink
8. Limiting hot beverages and caffeine
9. Stopping smoking
10.Using stress reduction techniques, such as yoga, meditation, or guided breathing.

Medications to be done:-

1. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
2. Gabapentin, an anti-seizure medication.
3. Clonidine, a high blood pressure medication.
4. Antidepressants.

Hope this info was helpful.
