What Causes High Blood Pressure And Pulse Rate On Standing?

MY friend is about 74 and has Blood pressure of 73/51 with pulse rate of 96. She had her heart checked out & it's said to be OK. They can't find a cause. And sometimes upon standing it goes very high. What could be the causes? She's very tired all the time.

Hi,

I understand your concern and would explain that it is quite normal to have higher blood pressure values when standing up compared to sitting position. But the most concerning thing in her situation is her blood pressure values which are really low.

For this reason, I would recommend increasing salt and caffeine intake and take plenty of fluids. It is also important checking cortisol plasma levels for adrenal gland dysfunction, blood electrolytes, complete blood count for anemia, in order to exclude possible metabolic causes of low blood pressure.

Hope I have answered your query.
