What Causes Heavy Bleeding In The Mid Cycle?

I have started the pil(alesse) just over 6 weeks ago and everything is going well . I went for a colposcopy 4 days ago and I started to bleed bright red blood filling a pad every few hours , like a period but am not expecting my period for another 2 weeks . Is this normal ? I have been taking the pill on time everyday as usual.

Hi,
If you have had any colposcopic biopsy this bleeding can be attributed to that, yet, it is heavy. Sometimes, premature onset of menstruation can set in with pelvic procedures. Also, stress and pill effects have to be kept in mind. Please check with your consultant if some medication is needed to arrest the bleeding. Do not use tampons as they can precipitate vaginal infections if retained for more than 6-8 hours. Please maintain proper genital hygiene. Hope this helps.

OBGYN Dr. Shanti Vennam's  Response
Hello,
I have gone through your query and understood your concern. In the current scenario, it is more likely that this bleeding is originating from the raw area if you had a biopsy taken, or an early period. Either way, you need to report the matter at once to your consultant. You would need styptics and if there is no response, hormone supplements to arrest the bleeding if there is no local pathology detected as the cause. Variations in the menstrual pattern are also expected while on oral contraceptive pills. Hope you find this information useful. Wish you good health.
