What Causes Hair Loss During Menopause?

Hi, I am a 59 year old post menopausal woman who has suffered hairloss over 9 years. Hairloss is progressively increasing and I am left with visible scalp and having to use concealers to cover up baldness. I am trying to figure out what is the cause besides menopause. I have a painful sensation or soreness on the sides of my skull and that's where I first starting losing my hair. Could this be trichodynia or telegen effluvium. I am planning on visiting a dermatologist since any thyroid problems have been ruled out, and bloodwork shows normal ranges for everything. I am presently researching everything I can before going to the dermatologist. I've already tried numerous products containing minoxidil, herbals, massages, etc., you name it, with no success of regrowth. Any advice?

Hi,
I understand your concern.
The hair loss during menopause is due to less production of female hormones day by day- causing hormonal imbalance. Psychological stress, illness, carelessness / hair infections/ Genetic predisposition add to it..
You had your hormone thyroid checked./ consult an endocrinologist also for other hormones
Identifying any hair root infection/ get it treated by a dermatologist will help.
Similarly you can think of hair transplant/ wig if needful.
Being stress free, doing yoga & meditation, breathing exercises, drinking lot of water, keep moving ( sp. in mild sunlight to get enough Vit. D/ having balanced & low saturated fat free diet helps hair fall prevention.
avoiding drying ( by heat based treatments like dryers/ straightening irons) / avoiding drying & breakage/Keeping hairs moist by natural hair conditioners helps lessening hair fall.
Thanks.
