Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Hair Loss Along With Itching And Burning Sensation On Scalp?
I am experiencing hair loss and my scalp burns and itches. The burning and itching has been going on for months, but I disregarded it because it was not as severe as it is now. No change in shampoos and I don t use hairspray. What could be causing this, please?
Scalp itching and hair loss can be caused by a number of reasons. Based on your symptoms, likely cause of scalp itching is seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is an inflammation of skin caused due to excessive sebum secretion in the skin.
Excess sebum can block ducts and irritate the the scalp and cause dermatitis. Presence of dandruff should also be ruled out since it can also cause hair loss.
Kindly switch to a shampoo containing anti dandruff medications such as ketoconazole Zinc pyrithione or sulphur. Wash your hair at least twice a week and avoid excess oil application.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
