What Causes Frequent Dizziness And Blurred Vision?

I have been having an increasing number of bouts of dizziness. It feels much like the bed spins I used to get when I was in college after a night of drinking...however the dizziness now happens when I am both lying down and upright with no alcohol. Also, I have great fatigue without a change in my activity level, and occasional nausea and diarrhea and some blurred vision. I have had heart studies done, complete with a heart monitor. I have also had 2 colonoscopies with nothing significant found. I am stumped. Do you have any ideas for me? Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, such symptoms though look simple but cause range between multiple systems. Since cardiac monitoring was normal, neurological causes and metabolic causes need to be worked up as well as endocrine workup.

A neurologist review for detailed neurological examination especially of cerebellar signs and of Benign positional vertigo should be ruled out.

Postural drop, hemoglobin levels etc also need to be reviewed. Baseline electrolytes levels, as well as vitamin D3 B12 and folic acid levels, may be needed.

Sugar levels, as well as Thyroid and cortisol levels, needs to be worked up. Treatment will depend on the cause.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
