What Causes Fever, Headache And Swollen Glands In The Neck In A Child?

Our son is five, he came home from school with a 102 fever. He looks pale and is complaining of a headache. Also his glands in his neck on one side are swollen. Is this a common cold or something more serious? We gave him some children s advil before bed - and his is sleeping, but sweaty and clammy.

It may be an infectious mononucleosis or a throat infection with enlargement of the draining lymph nodes.
If the child is not better, it would be good to have him examined by a child specialist and appropriate treatment given
