What Causes Fever, Chills, Body Aches And Chest Pain?

3 weeks ago I had fever, chills, achy bones, heartache. His lasted 4/5 days. It went to my chest, very heavy, hard to breathe. I have been coughing up phlegm (dark yellow). The cough won t subside and I sleep all day and all night. I don t have an appetite and no energy. I went to the doc and was prescribed Clarithromycin and Triprolidine. I am allergic to penicillin. The doc heard some fluid and without having an X-ray, suggested it might be pneumonia. I am a very active person with no health issues and no smoker.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Cough unresolved for more than 3 weeks might be pneumonia but it is always advisable to have an x-ray taken to see the extent of infiltration. If you live in a developing nation then it's also advisable that you have a Mantoux test and a sputum smear done to rule out tuberculosis.

I would suggest you to continue with the antibiotic and use nasal saline sprays and ibuprofen for symptomatic relief. Also drink plenty of fluids especially water. If you find it very difficult to breathe then it's advisable to revisit the doctor to have a nebulizer treatment done and he might even prescribe you an inhaler that can relieve your tightness and difficulty breathing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Manoj Pradeep
