What Causes Feeling Of Something Is Stuck In Throat While On Doxycycline/Tetracycline?

I have been taking Doxycycline & Tetracycline for one week. Tetracycline 4 times a day & Doxycycline 2 times a day. I took both pills right before bed with next to no water, & woke up an hour later feeling like something is stuck in my throat. Is it something to be concerned about?

Hi,

Taking Tetracycline along with Doxycycline together is never indicated as per my knowledge and you have taken the combination for 1 weeks. The causes of your symptoms can be one of the following:
* Ulceration in the pharynx
* Development of a mass in lymphoid tissues
* Inflammation of hyoid bone gives similar symptoms

Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation:
* Stop Doxycycline and Tetracycline
* Take a PPI like Omeprazole
* Antacids if your have any burning in throat or chest
* Consult an ENT Surgeon for Endoscopy to know the cause
* If the endoscopy is normal then this may be psychological called globus hystericus
* If there is anything positive then this will be treated specifically by your doctor
* Do not take any medicines without consulting your doctor
