What Causes Excessive Sweating Upon Quitting Smoking?
My husband quit smoking cigarettes but is using the e-cigarette. He has reduced the nicotine in the e-cigarrette to zero (0). He did this 3 weeks ago but for past 2 weeks he has been experencing periodic body sweats. Is this caused by the lack of nicotine?
As per your query you husband had symptoms of excessive sweating after quitting smoking is because of dependence of body on nicotine and once its withdrawal occurs dopamine production decreases and sensitivity of acetylcholine receptors also decreases. It is this combination that makes the person to sweat in excess specifically at night times. Most withdrawal symptoms peak 48 hours after you quit and are completely gone in six months. So every time keep reminding yourself that you are on quitting. Excessive sweating is a natural way of detoxifying body.
Need not to worry about anything. Its very normal occurrence. Keep drinking plenty of fluids as it will keep your body rehydrated.
Take diet rich in fruits, multivitamins and keep chewing sugarless candies.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
