What Causes Excessive Sweating After Having Food?

After eating something sweet, I often will break out into a sweat. I had a recent Hemoglobin a1c and it was 5.8. I heard that on my mothers side of the family there may have been a problem with hypoglycemia, unfortunately any historian who could answer more is now deceased. There is also some question as to whether there were any autoimmune disorders. Should I have any worries there may be some underlying problems?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As a physician I would like to tell you that it is a normal phenomenon in most individuals after eating sweets as sudden increase in glucose level causes insulin spike. As your Hba1c is well within normal limit you don't have to worry about anything. Heredity does have an important role in diabetes passed onto next generation.

I would advise that you do Hba1C and fasting and post-prandial BSL (sugar) reports every 6 months. Also do follow a healthy lifestyle and food patterns and you would not have any problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Abhijeet
