What Causes Excessive Flatulence Along With Frequent Urination?

Hi I have a an extremely mild sensation in my lower left abdomen near my thigh. I am a lady and 67 and I am thinking gas because I fart a lot lately. I have diverticulosis and am careful with food. I also have frequent urination. I have an appointment next Monday with a new primary care doc.

Hello,

You are having excessive flatulence along with urination. Your symptom may be indicative of constipation, ulcerative colitis, IBS, fluid build up, Crohn's disease, etc. Excess lower intestinal gas can be caused by eating too much of certain foods, like dairy products, beans, vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, and onions). Avoid eating food that causes gas.

Taking probiotics is helpful. You can take PPIs, for relieve from build up excessive gas. Eat slowly, wear proper dentures so that you do not swallow air. Frequent urination occurs due to infection, certain diseases, changes in muscles, nerves or other tissues may affect bladder function. Get urinalysis (R/E and C/S) done. You will be treated accordingly. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
