What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Level?

My husband s blood pressure which is usually normal just went up to 156/101 Pulse 136 with an electronic battery operated blood pressure cuff. He just took an adult aspirin and put it under his tongue. We check the blood pressure monitor again my blood pressure and it appears to be operating correctly.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I have gone through the medical history of your husband and understood your concerns.

Blood pressure (bp) can fluctuate during the day depending on the physical activity of the patient and emotional status.

If his bp went up to 156/101,and if this happened only this time, then, we should understand what might have caused it:
- work overload?
- get stressed?
- increased calories intake (heavy meal)?
- coffee? alcohol?

Pulse was also high 136 in response to high bp.

Aspirin is a good measure to prevent a possible heart attack in such elevation bp. However, his bp is not raised enough to cause a more serious cardio-vascular event.

Give him chamomile tea and ask to rest more. Monitor his bp regularly.
If not getting reduced or if keep getting higher, should send to hospital.

Hope this helps.
