What Causes Dry Throat?

I have a dry throat with a feeling of a lump I cannot clear with swallowing x 10 days. No soarness but mucus in sinus. I have no tonsils or adenoids. Any ideas? I do use a saline rinse when my sinus gets really bad but this has not seemed to affect that dry patch/ lump.
