What Causes Dry Cough?

Hi I have a cough that has been on going for the past week. It first started off producing phlegm (which I unfortunately swallowed) but now I have the cough and it's on and off a dry cough but more of a dry cough especially when I'm trying to sleep throughout the night. Could I have bronchitis or what could these symptoms mean?

Thanks for the query.
As you said you have cough which is more at night , it might be due to bronchospsm so i will advise you to take some bronchodilators like salbutamol.
Also if it more than a week's duration you should ask doctor about taking antibiotics.
I find this answer helpful
