What Causes Dizziness When Suffering From Diabetes?
my husband is a type 1 diabetic. He has an oral temp of 96.1 and is very dizzy and unable to sit up without vomiting. his bp is 164/78 and his blood sugars are over 200. He has not eaten or kept anything down since 18 hours ago. 57 5foot 9inches 200lbs.
Thank you for the query. As per the information provided, your husband is 57 yrs old, a Type 1 Diabetic (present blood sugar level 200mg%), with high Blood pressure recording (164/78 mm of Hg) and suffering from Dizziness. His BMI is 29 kg/m2 (obese). There can be a number of reasons for dizziness in a diabetic, autonomic dysfunction causing postural hypotension is one of them. Fluctuating blood sugar level can also cause it. You husband will need some investigations like complete blood sugar profile (if not done) ,total leucocyte count (to rule out any underlying infection) and electrolytes (sodium and potassium). Ketacidosis is something which leads to vomiting and needs to be ruled out (urine for ketone bodies need to be done) Please consult his physician as soon as possible. To reduce his vomiting drugs like Ondansetron may be given (if he cannot take it orally, it needs to be given intravenoulsy). In case, he is unable to take anything orally, intravenous fluids may need to be administered, to maintain a hydrated state. A dehydrated status and poor nutrition may aggravate the dizziness. Hope this helps you out. Regards, Dr. Ayusmati Thakur
