What Causes Dizziness And Tight Sensation In The Chest?
Hi, I m a 57 year old woman and have had feelings of lightheadedness for around 2-3 years. I simpy just feel off . This is particularly troublesome when I drive on the highway as it is sometimes difficult for me to maintain the concentration and alertness that high speed driving requires. I also sometimes feel like there is a tightness in my chest. I mentioned this to my NP last year and she ran a bunch of blood work that didn t show anything. I also have low blood pressure and a history of radiation to the lower left side of my head from salivary gland cancer. My energy is normal. I workout 5-6 times a week.
First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.
Based on the history you have shared, you need to have EKG monitoring along with echocardiogram to rule out any cardiac cause of your symptoms. Holter monitoring for 24 hours may also be needed.
Chest X-ray to rule out lung pathologies like pneumothorax should be done. Oxygen saturation and blood gases should also be done.
Other neurological disorders causing such symptoms need detailed neurological examination as well as brain imaging and Doppler ultrasound of carotids.
Such symptoms shouldn't be ignored and should be worked up at the earliest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
