What Causes Dizziness And Sore Throat?

Yesterday I was feeling dizzy. When I took my blood pressure it was 180/113. I went to urgent care. By then, my blood pressure was normal. The doctor checked me quite thoroughly and sent me home with instructions to follow up with my primary care doctor in 2-3 days and to go to the emergency room if my dizziness got worse or if I develop more symptoms. One of the symptoms to watch out for that was listed on the information sheet was a sore neck or stiff neck. Today, my dizziness is gone, but my blood pressure is still a little high. I have also developed a very sore throat. I have an appointment with my primary care doctor on Friday. Will that be soon enough?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your query.

Yes that should be OK.
By stiff neck, they meant that your muscles getting stiff, and hurting while trying to turn. This could indicate meningitis - an infection of the tissue covering the brain.

You have a sore throat, associated with a flu or cold. I recommend :

-Have plenty of warm fluids, avoid cold drinks
-monitor temperature. If above 100f take a Paracetamol. If the pain become severe or fever lasts for more than 3 days, see your doctor to check for strep. throat.

You also need to monitor your blood pressure twice daily and maintain a log.
A complete cardiovascular work is required too.
-electrocardiogram, echocardiogram,
-blood tests (complete blood count, lipid profile, thyroid function tests, blood glucose levels, kidney and liver function tests)
-an ophthalmologist and ent opinion to check for causes. Of dizziness

Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health
