What Causes Disorientation In The Head With An Ear Infection?

Hi I am constantly having a dull sensation in my head. My eyes feel swollen and moist. There is also an infection in my ear for which I am applying Fusidic Acid and Hydrocortisone Acetate cream. On two occassions I have felt slight disorientation in my head. What could be the reason ?

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern and would explain that your symptoms seem to be related to the inner ear infection. A sinus infection can not be excluded too.

Do you have headache, especially when bending over? What about running nose?

You should know that the inner ear has another function besides hearing: it helps hold the body balance (equilibrium). An inner ear infection could be the cause of head spinning, nausea and gait difficulty.

I recommend consulting with the ENT specialist and performing a sinus X ray study to exclude possible sinus infection. A complete blood count and inflammation tests should be done.
You should discuss with your doctor on the possibility of starting antibiotic therapy.

Hope to have been helpful!
Kind regards,
Dr. Aida
