What Causes Discomforts While Passing The Urine?

I have been on antibiotics for 2 weeks for possible UTI. ( My doctor called in a prescription) Took an at home test. Negative for nitrite positive for leukocytes. No fever or burning, just uncomfortable pressure and urge to go. I went to my doctor today and he did a urine test. Is it possible that I need a different medication?

hi.

noted history of UTI, burning and uncomfortable pressure and urge to urinate. have you completed your antibiotic regimen and what are the results of your repeat urinalysis? it is best if you do a follow-up consult with your doctor, preferably a urologist, for physical examination and clinical evaluation. kidney or ureteral stones must be ruled-out. other diagnostics (such as KUB ultrasound, complete blood count, etc.) and management will be directed accordingly.

hope this helps.

good day!!

Dentist Dr. Viraj Ravin Shah's  Response
Hello,

I can understand your concern. Presence of leukocytes in urine indicates presence of pus. Sometimes it is possible that the antibiotics do not work on the bacteria that caused UTI because they may be resistant to that specific antibiotic.

Your doctor may have taken your urine for culture and antibiotic sensitivity to determine what kind of bacteria are present in the urine and what antibiotics will be needed to eliminate them. He might change your antibiotics after the test results come.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
