Trying to conceive is one of the most emotional journey in a woman's life.
understanding what actually goes will help you through it.
When you have regular menstrual cycles, this is what happens :-
-
menstruation starts and follicular development occurs( every month your body recruits a certain number of preformed eggs in your ovaries , to prepare for ovulation). this happens from day1 ( the day your period starts)
- by the end of fifth to seventh day, one of the follicles becomes dominant and is selected for ovulation and the remaining follicles will slowly disappear, their only function being to support the developing follicle.
- build of hormones occur which tells the body that it is time to ovulate( release the egg) which happens anywhere between the 11-20 day if you have a cycle length of approximately 30 days. this part varies greatly from woman to woman.
- the egg then travels through the
Fallopian tube where it may meet and fertilise with the sperm( if intercourse is timed right).
- the egg remains viable for up to 24 hours. if it has not been fertilised it will disintegrate .
- what remains of the follicle after ovulation, the produces another hormone-
progesterone for 10-14 days ( varies from person to person but remains constant in the same person). if you are pregnant, this will continue to produce progesterone uand other hormones to support the
pregnancy until the placenta takes over.
Sperm can live longer than the egg and if everything is normal, can live upto 5 days in the female genital tract.
If you when you ovulate, time the intercourse from 3 days before to 3 days after the ovulation date to cover the fertile period.
It is possible to monitor at home if you regular cycles by monitoring your
basal body temperature for a couple of months which will give you an idea of when you have ovulated. The progesterone secreted after ovulation raises you basal body temperature a little bit which can be recorded with an appropriate thermometer when the readin is taken correctly. do read about it online.
sometimes progesterone is not secreted for a long enough period to facilitate
implantation of the embryo.
Duphaston is a synthetic progesterone that provides additional support if this is the case. it doesn't help your get pregnant, but if you do get pregnant, it will help you with retaining the pregnancy.
every month, for a woman your age, there is a 25% chance to conceive.
don't be disheartened, keep trying. a very good chance you will be successful in the first year.
try to relax. too much stress doesn't help.
hope I've helped
wish you a wonderful journey thing to conceive.
