What Causes Diarrhea Type Bowel Movements?

I have a diahrea type BM once or twice a day. Once I have such a discharge I am OK for several hours. Sometimes going a whole day without a problem. Sometimes the next day I may have a BM much like a baby stool that is hard to clean up, Often later in the day I have this diahera that strikes suddenly and I have only seconds to get to the bathroom. This has been going on for several week. I feel fine otherwise, other than the lower back pain when I walk very far. I am 40 -60 lbs over weight, treating diabetes with oral medicenes. Had a triple heart by-pass in 2000 and a partial knee replacement in 2009. I continue to me routine activities and but with caution.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history of diarrhea type bowel movements, OK for hours once passed the bm, sometimes very hard to clean, sometimes there is an urgency,
lower back pain, diabetes, triple vessel disease of heart operated and partial knee replacement ...
From the history you have provided, this looks to be an intestinal infection, may be due to poorly controlled diabetes allowing the infection to settle and remain in sub-clinical form.
I would advise you the following:
- First of all, send the sample of stool for tests on 3 consecutive days.
Blood: HbA1c to see the control along with blood sugar and get adjusted the dosages, thyroid, liver and kidney functions.
- A course of an antibiotic, Metronidazole and probiotic may helps you.
Later on if required colonoscopy, ultrasound and CT scan of the abdomen can be done.
