What Causes Diarrhea And Fever In An Infant?

Hi Dr, My 10 months old son had loose motion and then fever. after 1 week blood and mucus found in stool and then only blood and mucus came without any stool. We rushed and found intussusception and hydrostatic reduction done. Still he have little amount of blood in stool and we have give stool sample for culture. It showed like Plenty of pus cells,RBC -Nil, OVA/CYST -Nil and No Salmonella shingella or vibrio group of organisms isolated. We have been given antibiotics which we are giving to him now. Kindly advice on this

Cause of diarrhea has a wide range of variety, from food/ milk allergy to infection or even auto-immune and also anatomical.

From your case we could sum it up as fever, lose of motion/lethargy, blood and mucous on stool, and you have stated that its intussuception which is a condition when a segment of intestine invaginates into the intestinal lumen, causing bowel obstruction. and can lead to dehydration.

Its advisable that your child given antibiotics such as cotrimoxazole or broad spectrum antibiotics to wipe away the microbes in the intestinal lumen. However the laboratory finding is pretty good, Your kid is in good hand and shall recover within 2-3 weeks.

Make sure he is not in a dehydration state such as before.
