Hello, this is Dr. Marco Zahedi. Your question is complex and involves multiple symptoms that might involve different causes. For starts, one of the most common causes of painless
rectal bleeding is hemorrhoids. Taking
narcotic medications like
hydrocodone can promote hemorrhoid development, and should be given concurrently with a
stool softener like Colace. You may have also experienced an acute food
poisoning episode given the combination of nightime sweates and
diarrhea. The acid taste in your mouth can be the result of nightime reflux disease, this tends to worsen with late night alcohol consumption as the lower esophageal sphincter will relax allowing such acidity to reflux back into your throat. If I may make some suggestions:
1) Take Fiber supplements plus hydration to avoid constipation
2) Sleep with an extra pillow to keep your head 30 degrees elevated to reduce gastric reflux
3) Avoid eating late at night (after 6 pm) and avoid alcoholic beverage if you have
gastritis or acid reflux
4) You can consider askingyour doctor for an anti-acid pill like Protonix if you haven't already
5) Try to come off the narcotic medications and take something less addictive like Tylenol
You can start with some of these suggestions and see if you improve your lifestyle habits to improve your health. As for what I suspect is acute food poisoning, it will pass through your system within 24-48 hours. Stay well hydrated (gatorade for example) and follow up with your doctor if your rectal bleeding condition does not improve.
Respectfully,
Marco M. Zahedi M.D., M.P.H.
