What Causes Clogging Of Ears And Difficulty In Hearing?

I woke up in the Middle of the night last night to my ear being clogged. I can not hear anything out of that ear. The last few hours it has been very achy. I have had a cold the last week or so, but thought it was getting better. I'm not sure if it's earwax that is impacted or a sinus infection.

Otolaryngologist/ENT Doctor 's  Response
Hi,

There are several causes for clogging/sensation of fullness in the ears associated with decreased hearing. From your brief clinical history the most probable causes could be 1) collection of fluid in the middle ear 2) Accumulation/build-up of ear wax. In either case I suggest you to consult your ENT specialist and follow his/her advise.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Dr. Prasad
