What Causes Chronic Cough And Chest Pain?
I rapidly developed a cough over the last four days that has resulted in clear mucus production from my chest and a sore throat. I have produced a strange strand of thickened mucus from the lungs that looks almost like a worm, but it isn t. It looks like my body reacted to either an inspired contaminant or an aspirated contaminant. I suffered a stroke two years ago and as a result, I do not have an automatic swallow reflex of the epiglottis. When I sleep on my back, fluids drain into my esophagus and then into my lungs. Along with the hard cough, I had a bout of fever two days ago and current diarrhea from the mucus drainage.

In your situation the information you provided, you had a stroke in the past few years and lost your gag reflex, now you are having a chronic cough with fever and sputum and gag reflex is still existing. The problem is when you eat something it goes into the lungs which cause pneumonia. This type of pneumonia is called aspiration pneumonia because you aspirate food contents in your lungs.
If you are having this problem, first of all, you need to have nasogastric tube intubation so you get NG feed and prevent from further aspiration of food contacts.
You need your sputum examination and then start antibiotics accordingly if you are having trouble breathing you might need nebulization.
