What Causes Chronic Abdominal Pain With Diarrhea?

I have been experiencing diarrhea for two or three years. It is rare to have normal stool at this point. I get sudden stomach cramps but then go to the bathroom. It happens quickly so I just got used to it, I guess. I am now very concerned, though. I notice that I am not digesting some of the food I am passing, and I imagine this is horrible for my overall health. I'm tired all the time and dehydrated. Things to consider: I am one 200mg of Lamictal a day. Please let me know if you could help me. Hopefully, it's IBS or something, not colon cancer...

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern

1. As there is history of chronic diarrhea, thus following should be your approach:

- Gastroenterologist opinion & examination
- Stool Test
- Sigmoidoscopy & Colonoscopy
- K.U.B. X- ray and Barium Enema

2. As you are taking Lamictal 200 mg which is an anticonvulsant medicine and also given in bipolar disorder symptoms in adult patients thus patient can experience change in bowel movements [either constipation or diarrhea] with the therapy which can cause abdominal bloating, cramping and discomfort in some patients so make sure to check with your prescribing physician regarding the same.

3. Management is successful only after other investigation(s] comes out to be normal, so exclude the causes cited and then proceed further, till then:

- avoid fatty foods, oil, ghee, raw vegetables, overeating and take a Digestive enzyme and fibre rich diet with fruits
