Hi im a 20 yr old female. I went to the er this week with chest pain , shortness of breath headache they rain an ekg, chest xray, cardiac enzymes, and a d dimer and everything came back normal. The only risk factor i have for blood vlots is that i took the birth control pill for 4 years. Should i still be worried about a clot? Im not on the pill anymore.
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic. I can understand your concern. Since your d dimer and ecg are normal, possibility of Pulmonary embolism (clot in lung) is very less. But birth control pills is major risky factor for embolism. So if you want to confirm that you are not having Pulmonary embolism then get done CT Pulmonary angiography. If this is normal then you are not having embolism for sure. Also get done PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) to rule out bronchitis because this can also cause similar symptoms. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
