Good morning Doc. May son has been suffering difficulty in breathing. I had him checked and we were advised to have a chest xray. The result is clear but his difficulty in breathing continues. So i decided to go back to the hospital looking for a possible cause. We were requested to have an ASO test and his result is positve (400IU/ml), but his reumatoid factor (RF) is negative. What does it mean?

HI, Good evening, ASO test for a child 400 IU/ml, is border line +ve., for an adult it is frank +ve. It indicates infection with Streptococcus A,which needs to be treated adequately. Rhumatic factor being -ve indicates the pain in joints is not due to rhumatic arthritis. Thanks.
