What Causes Breathing Difficulty And Poor Appetite?

My father is in the hospital battling Lymphedema in the legs and a strep infection of the skin. (Also located near the lower leg) He has had trouble breathing and a low appetite . He’s been admitted into the hospital since Friday November 3rd and is still in the hospital with minimal improvement. Since being in the hospital he has been put on medication (IV) and antibiotics. Now the the pain in the leg has subsided but the swelling has still not gone down and now his leg is blistering and leakIng fluid. Is that a normal part of the healing process? Why don’t they know how long the infection will last ? And is weeping of the legs normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for asking to HCM for health problems.

Infections are ready to happen in lymphedema if proper care and hygiene are not taken. In your case culture and sensitivity test should be done of fluid coming out of blisters to choose proper antibiotic. Sensitive drugs only will be effective in this scenario.
After treatment of infection lymphedema can be manged by elastic stoacking at night, streching and aerobic exercise of legs, proper hydration of skin by applying moisturizers, physiotherapy if required. It will help to reduce odema of legs.

Regards
Dr. Hiren
