What Causes Blood In Stool After Dialysis?

my husband had a open heart surgery last May 04 they put a echmo machine on him cause and they left he s chest open for a week. He is doing good but still in ICU he had couple complications which is dialysis ,pneumonia ,fluid on he s lungs they try to give him tube feeding but it only takes couple hours co z they found a blood on he s stool.

Hi,

Blood in stool is known as Malena. Dialysis patients are mostly having end stage kidney disease. As a complication of this, they usually show thrombocytopenia (low platelets) and this can lead to a bleeding tendency. So get done platelet count and if this is low then he will need platelet transfusion. Another possibility is intestinal pathology. So also get done CT Abdomen and lower GI (gastrointestinal) scopy to find out abdominal pathology.
