What Causes Bleeding After Taking Depo Shot?

I got a depo shot in February of this year and it was the first time using that birth control. Everything went as the doctors said it should but now that the medicine is wearing off or maybe completely out of my body I have been bleeding. It s been a month of everyday bleeding. It s not a heavy flow but one day about two weeks ago I changed my pad and about 15 minutes later I felt a lot of blood come out so I went to the bathroom and blood was flowing out I had several large blood clots which I usually don t have and when I do they are very small. It lasted a little over an hour and when I was finally able to get off the toilet it was like the blood flow almost stopped. It was a lot lighter then what it was leading up to what ever you would call this and for the next couple days it stayed light and eventually went back to the normal flow. I considered a miscarriage but it seemed too early to get pregnant and I had no cramping at all. Also I don t know if these could be connected but I get little bruises on my legs and sometimes my arms that pop up out of no where in the middle of the night it seems. A couple of them reappear in the same place and they don t hurt when I push on them or anything.

Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern. In the current scenario, the bruises are likely to be linked with the heavy torrential bleeding you experienced. Coagulation profile provides clue to any defects possible after use of hormone contraception. A sonogram of the pelvis is helpful to exclude pelvic causes. To exclude pregnancy, the blood test is useful. Please inform your health care provider for further management. Maintain a healthy diet and adequate rest. Wish you good health.
