Hello, and I hope i can help you today.
It is not ever normal to have a strong
fishy vaginal odor, and I am sure you have some type of
vaginal infection that is causing your symptoms. If you have such severe odor that you are concerned about people noticing it, you really should seek medical attention promptly.
An
OBGYN doctor absolutely should be able to help you. Vaginal infections are one of the most common things we diagnose and treat. And they will also be able to evaluate your
pregnancy and make sure everything is normal.
Certain types of vaginal infections can increase the risk of premature delivery, so it is important for the health of the baby later that you get treated now. However the infection, or the medications used to treat it are safe during pregnancy when prescribed by a doctor. Usually it is a bacterial infection that causes an odor, so you most likely need an antibiotic for treatment.
In the meantime, I would buy antibacterial soap and use that to wash the outside of your genital area every day. I would also refrain from intercourse until a diagnosis is made.
I hope I was able to answer your question today and that my advice was helpful.
Best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy, Dr. Brown
