What Causes An Altered Sense Of Taste And Smell?

Was to the doctor with bad smell in nose and funny taste in mouth only gave me five pills of prednisone and said I had an inflamed sinus infection, but prior to the sinus infection had a sewer like smelling my apartment , so could that have caused this and what do you suggest to do as I was told to go easy on dairy and sugar foods

Hi,

From your explanation, it looks like sinus infection only causing a bad taste in mouth and funny smell from the nose.

In case if there is an infection in the sinuses causing inflammation then you also need antibiotics along with Prednisone as it is a steroid.

So my suggestion is to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and get a sinus X-ray done for confirmation.

In case of infection, you can be advised a course of antibiotics like Augmentin or Amoxicillin and Clavulanate combination.

Do saline nasal irrigation and steam inhalations. Use a humidifier in your room. Use decongestant nasal sprays like Oxymetazoline or Xylometazoline.
