General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I think in this particular condition, it is better to consult your family doctor and ask your doctor do a full Thyroid panel test which includes TSH, T4, T3, Anti-TPO, Anti TSH receptor antibodies, Thyroglobulin and then your doctor may direct your mom to a consultant Endocrinologist only if needed.

Hashimoto's disease or Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune condition which is the most common cause of hypothyroidism and it affects mostly women than men. Depression is very common among the affected individuals. As I mentioned above, if your mom is allergic to the prescribed medications, then the next step should be ask your doctor to direct her to an Endocrinologist.

I hope my answer helped you. If you have more concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me. Good luck!
