What Causes Acid Reflux Post A General Anesthesia?
I had general anesthesia yesterday and today I have awful acid reflux (I am on prilosec and was allowed to take it in the morning and this morning I took one also, as the day has gone on I have indigestion, Burping or trying to, I need to burp but I can't..I also had a soar throat most of the day so I'm assuming that was because they put something in my throat
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. It is possible that the procedure of anesthesia can cause minimal trauma during intubation and thus cause throat pain which usually settles within a few days. But the feeling of burping without actually being able to do one may be due to gastroenteritis as you also have developed bloating and indigestion. This can be due to the antibiotics and other medications. Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation: Continue Prilosec as before. Take antacids and see the results. You need something like Domperidone or Reglan for the sensation that you have. Get stool test done and if there is any evidence of any intestinal infection your Doctor would prescribe you additional treatment with an appropriate antibiotic, symptomatic and supportive management.
