What Causes Abdominal Bloating Along With Excessive Burping?

Hello, I ve been diagnosed with H Pylori a month ago. I was bloating and burping with everything I used to eat or drink, it was horrible. I went to a gastroenterologist for an endoscopy, and what I had was: - Moderated duodenal gastritis - hiatal hernia (2cm, but this one was here for a long time already) And H pylori positive. I took clarithromicine(500mg), amoxicilin(500mg) and lanzoprasol(30mg) for 7 days, twice a day. I finished the pills combo 20 days ago. The thing is that before taking the antibiotics, I wasn t feeling pain in the stomach, just heartburn, a lot of reflux and the burps. Now, I don t have the heartburn or burps anymore, and Im not even feeling bloated after eating. My problem is that now, according to what I eat, I feel pain in the stomach (sometimes in the middle, right below the esophagus, and sometimes a Lil bit to the left). Should I be worried that the bacteria is still here or does this means that the bacteria was irradicated and now only the gastritis is left? I m still taking lanzoprasol once a day, and as soon as the box is finished I ll change it by nexium 40mg once a day. I already went to my gp regarding this subject, but a consultation with the gastro now will take another month to be scheduled, so I just wanna know if I need to be worried or not. Thanks in advance.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Considering your symptoms that you had, the presence of a hiatal hernia and Helicobacter pylori infection, in my opinion, the pain might be due, to a hiatal hernia.

You should continue taking Lansoprazole and after that Nexium. You can also repeat the test for H. Pylori to evaluate if it is eradicated and repeat the treatment if it's not cured.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Suela Gjata, General & Family Physician
