What Causes A Tender Spot On The Scalp?

I am in my 70 s and have always had healthy hair. Once in a while when under some stressful situation, I would get a tender spot on the back of my scalp in the crown area that would be followed by a little blister like sore that would be very painful. My dermatologist prescribed various things like Clyndamycin\ even one time injected cortisone. Then it seemed to get a kind of thick cover over it. When it acted up again it seems that no matter what various meds were used, at some time it would return. NOW about a couple months ago a new Dermatologist decided to do a biopsy on this spot because I started getting a sort of trail of a very painful rash that went across the back of the scalp from left to right. like little blisters that seemed to have a center location and around it, would sprout these little sore blisters! the dermatololgist gave six places some cortisone injections which really hurt due to my inflamed scalp. It eased the pain a little....but seriously, after a couple days the rash and pain just went right on becoming worse. The feeling is like someone is pouring scalding water on the area while I m being stung by a hundred bees. I was prescribed a medicated scalp oil and still the pain was horrible and it didn t help! I also made a donobero solution and it woulde cool it off for awhile but still the pain would come back with a vengeance. I might mention that I did have a shingles vaccine a couple years ago.....and for the last 5 years have been very stressed helping take care of my youngest son who was terminally ill and passed away near the end of 2013. Also when I have been overstressed at times I get fever blisters on my lip or base of the nose also. I would get them with a sunburned face, a cold or illness with a fever since childhood. Now, really, I m desperate and can t even go anywhere or accompolish anything at home and I live alone. I ve tried diluted braggs vinegar hair rinse.....head and shoulders shampoo and even baby shampoo. Honestly....It s still going strong and nothing seems to get rid of it. It does stay in that one crown back of the head areal. Could it still be shingles.....or some kind of herpes simplex extension or WHAT Else. Shouldn t my Dr. do some kind of a Lab test or something. I worry about meds internally as I am on Warfarin as I had a DVT in 2006 caused because Tests show I am C protein deficient and have to be always on a thinner. Pleas help with advise as possible.......the burning pain is unbearable. even a lidocaine Gel doesn t help but for about a half hour.

Hi ,

Welcome to healthcaremagic.com
I have read your query in detail and can well understand your concern.

In the absence of a picture, it is very difficult to comment but from your question it seems like your symptoms could be due to herpes zoster or shingles.

Shingles most commonly occurs in old age and stressful lifestyle will increase the chances of this viral infection.

For this , acyclovir or valacyclovir is prescribed for 7 days.

stronger analgesics in the form of gabapentin are usualy needed.
Amytryptaline taken at night time will help you to relax .

Hope this helps.
