What Causes A Dark Spot On The Leg While Treating Pneumonia In The Elderly?
My mother is 72 with COPD. She went into the hospital with pneumonia and a bladder infection. She has been there for 3 days, on IV Antibiotics and inhalers. Her white blood cell count is now actually higher than when she went in. We don t know why. Nor do we know what type of bacteria she has. I now just noticed a dark round spot on her leg. She says it has been there for 2 weeks. Should she not be getting better by now. She does feel better. And her lungs sound better, but still not even close to being clear.
* Elderly person with pneumonia and COPD may be a bed ridden condition with possible issue of threat of developing deep vein thrombosis or coagulation disorder via certain antibiotics or medications.
* It would be best to discuss the issue with her treating physician who will decide to undertake certain investigations to work up into the matter and manage accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
