What Can Be The Reason For Patches On The Skin?

I do not typically have sun sensitivity. I usually tan with moderate outdoor exposure and don't usually get sunburned. This summer with an outdoor job I had one bad burn, and then, following exposure to both poison ivy and sun, a monster rash all over my body, with hives on my legs/knees, which weren't exposed to the sun or poison ivy (my forearms and ankles were the only thing that could have gotten direct poison ivy exposure, and I was scrupulous about not contaminating anything with my clothes afterward). The sun sensitivity seems to be increasing. Today I was in the sun for five hours, early morning until 1 p.m. I had SPF 15 on my arms, a hat on, and long pants. My knees have hot red patches (no direct exposure), also my elbows, which did have exposure but with sunscreen.
