What Are The Symptoms Of Multiple Sclerosis?

what are some symptoms of MS, I have numb like burning that moves through different parts of my body and have had stomach spasms and cramping for about a week. I went to a neurologist after a cat scan showed some signs of ( stroke or some other dimentalating disease ) actual wording.. well he said he thought I had rubbed a bare place in the nerve canal that runs up the neck and that was what was causing the pain in my head at the time and recommended a nerve block if bad enough which I didn t think it was, the pain in my head is rare now but does happen. ive been diagnosed thru a colonoscopy with diverticulitis and a recent cat scan showed thickening of the colon.. I am still active but push myself to work and keep going.

Hello,

All demyelinating diseases may not be multiple sclerosis. Here are symptoms of multiple sclerosis:
Classic MS symptoms are as follows:
1) Sensory loss (i.e., paresthesia) - Usually an early complaint
2) Spinal cord symptoms (motor) - Muscle cramps is secondary to spasticity
3) Symptoms of the spinal cord (autonomic) - Bladder, bowel, and sexual dysfunction
4) Cerebellar symptoms - Charcot triad of dysarthria (scanning speech), nystagmus, and intention tremor
5) Optic neuritis
6) Trigeminal neuralgia - Bilateral facial weakness or trigeminal neuralgia
7) Facial myokymia (irregular twitching of the facial muscles) - May also be a presenting symptom
8) Eye symptoms - Including diplopia on lateral gaze; these occur in 33% of patients
9) Heat intolerance
10) Constitutional symptoms - especially fatigue (which occurs in 70% of cases) and dizziness; fatigue must be differentiated from depression (which may, however, coexist), lack of sleep, and exertional exhaustion due to disability
11) Pain - Occurs in 30–50% of patients at some point in their illness
12) Subjective cognitive difficulties - With regard to attention span, concentration, memory, and judgment
13) Depression - A common symptom
14) Euphoria - Less common than depression
15) Bipolar disorder or frank dementia - May appear late in the disease course but is sometimes found at the time of initial diagnosis

MS patients may present with many other manifestations such as:
Aphasia or dysphasia (occurs very rarely)
Seizures (5% of patients with MS)
Other paroxysmal symptoms (eg, ataxia, akinesia, paresthesia, pruritus)
Significant motor complaints without sensory deficits or dysautonomia

You don't have any classic symptoms of multiple sclerosis. Abdomen pain and spasms are due to Diverticulitis. Your headache may be due to tension headache, migraine headache, cluster headache, cervical spondylitis, or sinus headache. Hence, you don't have multiple sclerosis in my opinion.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
