General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

When you eat excess sugar, the extra insulin in your blood stream can affect your arteries all over the body. It causes their walls to get inflamed, grow thicker than normal and more stiff, this stresses your heart and damage it over time. This can lead to heart disease like heart failure, heart attacks and strokes. Some people may suffer from some health problems after chronic consuming excess sugar like low energy levels, low mood, tooth decay, acne, weight gain and obesity, DM and insulin resistance, ageing skin, high blood pressure and even cancer.

Certain types of sugar may cause bloating, gas, burning sensation in the throat and feeling nauseated in people who have digestive problems like inflammatory bowel syndrome (IBS) or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). According to WHO (2015), for a daily intake of 2000 calories per day, added sugar should amount to 100 calories or 6 tsp, at the most.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
