What Are The Side Effects Of Cortisone Injections In Diabetes?
I am 54 years old. I weigh 207 lbs. I have lost 10 pounds in 3 weeks because I have been too weak to want to eat. I am feeling better now. I started insulin July 15. I had a cortizone shot July 14. I assume the cortizone shot affected my blood glucose and it shot to over 400. I am off all carbs and sugar. I am taking 2 prescription drugs for diabetes. I know one is metformin and I cannot remeber the other one. My question is in the following statement: I want to stop taking the oral meds. Can I take enough insulin to counteract not taking the oral meds? For some reason I have been nauseous from 7/15-7/27. I have felt great the last two days except I about fall asleep after lunch and I have slept all night since 7/24 which is very unusual for me.
Hello welcome to HCM. Yes.. Steroids do increase blood sugar levels and also increase body weight and blood pressure. You haven't mentioned for what indication you have taken steroids, if it's unnecessary don't take steroids. Secondly, tab metformin is very good drug for diabetes as it also helps in reducing body weight. But it sometimes cause nauseating sensation. Vomiting may also occur in cases of uncontrolled blood sugar and acidosis. You can switch over to insulins if blood sugars remain under control after the injections but it also has following disadvantages -insulins might increase body weight. -chances of sudden hypoglycaemia - low blood sugar is high after insulins -you have to take 2-4dosage everyday depending on the type of insulins.. Consult your diabetologist after this much of knowledge and ask him for proper treatment plan. Do FBS, PP2BS AND HBA1c report every 3 monthly.. Thank you. Have a nice day.
