What Are The Side Effects Of Levothyroxine?

I had my thyroid radiated about thirty years ago. Since then I have had my ups and down trying to get it regulated. For many years I have been on the same dose of medication. Now in the last two months I have been sent to see a endocrinologist .. I was taking .125 mcg synthesis he changed it to .112mcg and the .88mcg . I feel this is causing me to feel anxious and other symptoms. Show he be upping me dose?

Hi thanks for your question.
Levothyroxine is a hormone used to treat hypothyroidism due to any cause. You have received radiation therapy for for some thyroid disorder 30 years back which has rendered you hypothyroid and you have been on Levothyroxine since then and you have to continue it through out your life. Being a hormone doesn't have much side effects except that it intefers with calcium metabolism and make bones week, for which supplementary calcium is prescribed along with Levothyroxine. Endocrinologist has decreased your dose of Levothyroxine, he might have done this after talking into consideration your TSH level. Symptoms your complaining of are not due to decrease in Levothyroxine dose. However increase in the blood levels of thyroid hormone can cause these symptoms. Read consult your Endocrinologist he /she may result adjust your Levothyroxine dose.
Hope this answers your question.
