What Are The Reasons Of Having Headache, Sleepiness And Difficulty In Swallowing After Taking Metformin?

I am somewhat borderline diabetic, and my doctor prescribed me with Metformin after I have having difficulties with Byetta. I had just gotten Metformin today, and now I have a headache, sleepy also, and it hurts to swallow. I am not sure if this is something I should be worried about.

HI
Thank for asking to HCM
I can understand your concern, if your blood glucose level is not much high then this could be managed with the diet alone, no need to take hypoglycemic agent for this, the present complaint of your could be due to the Gastritis, this might be because of Metformin, if I would be your doctor then I would suggest you the following treatment.
1) Tab Omeprazole 40 mg once in day
2) Tab Domeperidone once in day
3) Tab Acetaminophen as per the requirement, for headache
stop taking the Metformin and have word with your doctor if the glucose level could be managed with diet, hope this information helps you, have nice day.

Hello, Thank you for consulting with HCM.
As you are mentioning that you are using metformin and after that you are feeling these symptoms, these can be related to metformin side effects as it causes lethargy, dizziness and nausea vomitting.
Better you visit your physician to get the medication changed.

Thank you
Regards
