Hi,
Delayed periods with no internal sex (as you are stressing) is due to hormonal imbalance. The cause of such imbalance can be psychological stress (may be of sex with fear of getting pregnant)/ ovarian or thyroid problems / ovulatory problem like PCOS. Mostly accompanied by weight gain. She can be given a short course of hormones after exclusion by home pregnancy test. This would induce the period.
Please consult a gynecologist for choosing suitable hormone and its dosage also. The follow up advice for regular cycles / contraceptive use is also advised.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
