What Are Causes & Remedies For Dyschidrosis?

Hi docs. I m doing research on what I believe is dyshidrosis [not sure if I spelled that right ..] and have read that it s a mild form eczema or a fungus. I used to play rugby in high school and college years but did my best with my foot hygiene and have noticed that it gets more evident as the weather warms up ... George, Worcester - MA

Hello,

Eczema and fungal infection are like chalk and cheese. On one hand, eczema is caused by dryness and is aggravated in winter with flaky, itchy rash mainly over elbows, knees, and shin. On the other hand, fungus thrives in moist, and warm environment producing symptoms like jock itch, athlete's foot, and fungal nail infections. The symptoms worsen in summer with sweating and humidity. While the presentation of dyshidrotic eczema is with fluid-filled itchy blisters. As you have not provided with a detailed medical history it is difficult to come to a diagnosis. I would suggest you send a detail medical history with description of the skin lesions, or visit a GP to get examined.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ayesha Shareef, General & Family Physician
