What Abdominal Pain In Children?

My son is nine, 54" and weighs 60lbs. He has had 3-4 bouts of SEVERE abdominal pain on the lower LEFT side. These have all taken place months apart, but they have all resulted in him being doubled over in pain for several hours, but resolve themselves eventually on their own. It does not seem to be due to constipation or hunger so was wondering what else could be the cause. There is also no evidence of protrusion. We did not have insurance for a long time, but now do and I was wondering what questions to ask the doctor.

General Surgeon 's  Response
HI.
This can be due to recurrent testicular torsion with a referred pain in the left side of the abdomen. During the next attack consult a Surgeon / Urologist and get an urgent ultrasonography and color doppler done of the scrotum as well as the abdomen. Also get a Standing X-ray abdomen during the attack. Once the diagnosis is made , it is easy to treat. Another possibilities are of sigmoid volvulus.
