Weight Gain On Using Amitriptyline. Painful And Stiff Knees. History Of Knee Surgeries. Alternative Medication?

I have had both knees done. They both hurt going upstairs and downstairs, I also was prescribed Prozac and it l wilmade me hurt everywhere. My knees become stiff and still are. I quit the Prozac. I also have restless leg syndrome. I was given amitriptyline, but it makes you gain weight. I have a appointment with a neurologist in October. I would like to know what they will check for.

Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
Prozac ( fluoxetine ) and now amitryptiline as these both drugs are antidepressant and this is naturally you gain weight with these drugs.
You have not mentioned why, are you visiting neurologist ?
As far as concerned about knee pain going upstairs & downstairs may be due to,
1 Osteoarthritis , diagnosis can be confirmed by CT SCAN and X ray of both knee , consult an orthopedic doctor and get his opinion.
2 Rheumatoid arthritis , diagnosis can be blood examination for rheumatic factor.
3 Gouty arthritis , get in blood for uric acid as this is very important tool in joint disease.
As you mentioned that they done knee surgery , still painful so all these above mentioned tests are important , get it done and once again consult orthopedic doctor and get his treatment and opinion.
